Lots of improvements, one drawback, June 14, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Tritton PC510HDa USB Powered 5.1 Surround Sound Gaming Headset for PC (Personal Computers) Previously I used Tritton's other 5.1 PC gaming headset, the AX PC Pro. The PC51u improves on the older USB headset in several key ways.
The master volume is a knob instead of a rocker and when the volume is turned all the way down the headset powers off.
Whenever I moved the AX PC Pro between USB ports or unplugged it I had to reinstall the driver. The PC51u doesn't need drivers.
The PC51u's mic has an on/off switch. The AX PC Pro had a mic mute button that I accidentally pushed sometimes.
The PC51u has a flexible mic, minimizing the wear on the connection when making small adjustments.
The reason this doesn't get 5 stars is comfort. The AX PC Pro came with two sets of ear pads, one leatherette, one cloth. The cloth were far more breathable and comfortable. The PC51u comes only with the sweaty leatherette ear pads. If I could dock only 1/2 a star I would, but this is worth mentioning because gamers wear headsets for hours at a time... Read more

This was my first gaming/surround sound headphone set and I was very pleased with the sound. If you use an USB 2.0 External 5.1 Channel 3D Sound Card Adapter for PC Notebook Laptop (or similiar) and plug in the one black jack, you will get stereo, but through all eight speakers. Plugging the unit into the back of your Desktop Tower with all four jacks and the USB, you will experience great surround. It's fantastic for gaming, but I actually just enjoyed hearing my DVD 5.1 music. These headphones have four speakers in each earpiece with a bass that's just loud enough to give a full range. The controls for front, rear, center and subwoofer are all adjustable with a small circular wheel on the audio controller. I am VERY happy I got these instead.
Compared to the Turtle Beach Z6A these PC51HDa Trittons:
- Provide the same 5.1 surround sound on your PC
- Provide BETTER clearer and deeper bass
- Provide same level of clarity for higher frequency sounds
- Have more comfortable leather ear cushions
- Have cool lights where Z6A has none
- Have a nice clean black design
But:
- Microphone is flexible and removable but not as "positionable"
- Feels a bit heavier and tighter on the head than Z6A
- does not provide the Y-splitter cables inside (to plug in both headphones and speakers at same time) Y-cables are usually 3.99 each.
Overall it's a better PC gaming headset than the Z6A and does the same thing with a few tiny drawbacks.
