AUDIO
This headset sounds great with all the media that I have tried so far. I mostly use them for gaming, and games sound outstanding. It's amazing all the new sounds you will hear in a game when using a good headset like this. The bass, mids, and treble all seem to be nicely tuned, making for a great audio gaming experience. There is also an inline volume control that allows you to easily adjust the volume.
SURROUND SOUND
WIth this headset you can either use the built in USB sound card and connect it to your USB port. Or if you have a soundcard, you can plug directly into it using the 3.5 mm jacks. I use the USB sound card option, and I was surprised how well it works. The sounds really appear to come from different directions, and with 7 channels, you are surrounded by all sorts of crystal clear sounds.

Finding a good headset seems to be even harder, although Sennheiser makes other adequate stereo headsets so props for that.
Finding a good headset with a very high quality USB sound card is definitely the exception to the rule, and believe me this is a very high quality one.
These are great for gaming and listening to music, and worth it for music alone, where the quality of a good lossless encode of a CD comes through (mp3 is simply inferior).
I haven't given proper consideration to the surround effect in games (which can be turned on/off with the flick of a switch on the USB sound card itself), I used to be a competitive online gamer and directional sound on my other surround headphones gives a real edge in competition, but I haven't tested... Then, I came across this model and it is quite compact and extremely comfortable on your ears. You can spend all day gaming and your ears wont hurt or get sweaty. Its somewhat of a loose fit so if you move around a lot it might be a problem. Otherwise, its velvety soft and wonderful.
I've found the surround sound to be AMAZING in certain games like Battlefield 3 (with the right settings, enhanced stereo mode off, audio quality = wartapes) but when listening to things like music, I find that it sounds better turned off. Luckily, the little USB device they give you has a slider switch to easily turn the surround sound on and off. They even include a USB extension cord so you can have it nearby. I talk on skype/ventrilo with the microphone and it sounds great. I find that certain things that are made for surround sound sound great while other older games just sound... Read more
