I bought my Sennheiser HMEC-250 headset when I started private pilot lessons at Springbank, Alberta in March 2010. After extensive web search, I ordered this headset online (without trying it), because:
1. Very good price (much cheaper than other headsets, such as Bose, Lightspeed, etc., $450 Vs. $900 to $1,100) 2. Noise canceling function; 3. Smaller size than others (can fit it in my flight bag easily. I don't have to carry two bags, flight bag and headset bag); 4. Convenient volume controls (very sensitive as well); 5. Excellent quality of Sennheiser headphones.
It has worked exactly as I expected, and has not failed or disappointed me. It is my opinion that this headset is perfect for GA student pilots, i.e., limited budget, uncertainty of flying, before major commitments, etc. Sadly, Sennheiser has not promoted this excellent product aggressively.

This is a great headset. It was very painful for me to lose my Lightspeed Zulu last month. Sennheiser HMEC250 gives very good sound quality & ANR works great too. Value for money! Must always remember to bring spare batteries as it dries up very fast!

I got this to replace my Lightspeed Pro-Flight 2/C with worn ear pads.
Pros: Handy features: Folds two ways, cellphone and audio player inputs, slim microphone, talk through and peak level protection, lightweight. Good quality construction.
Con: The headset attenuation was not sufficient for my somewhat noisier cockpit. It needed more clamping pressure. Gel ear pads would probably improve it. As with most headsets the ANR attenuation has a limited frequency range - not best for my case.
I recommend this headset for most aircraft but not for noisier cockpits.
