Since becoming a private pilot 12 yer ago, I've been pretty sensitive to cockpit noise. I didn't damage my hearing with loud music or machines through the years and I wasn't about to do it in a single engine airplane. So I bought the best, the Bose X ANR headphones. But, while clearly better at noise reduction than the rest (I tried several other brands) at the time, I was never completely satisfied with them. They felt awkward on my head, heavier then they should have. The clam shell design didn't fit quite right and while they were the best at the time, as far as I was concerned, they weren't the final state of the art. I always felt someone could do better, (maybe even Bose, but they never did). It was sort of like waiting for the Ford Excursion to come along while driving a GMC Suburban. Suburban was good.....Excursion is a lot better.

I'm delighted with this purchase. I was a bit concerned about the slightly heavier weight than the Bose headset and the fact that as a petit female I have a considerably smaller head (and ears!) than the average male. I was worried the headset would not fit properly and that the ear cups would in fact be too big and leave gaps making noise cancellation ineffective.
I need not have worried, everything fits great and I had none of the fitting issues that some users reported.
I would definitely recommend this product, but I have not had a chance to compare with the Bose ones, so can't really say which one I find better.
Lightspeed Zulu 2, May 20, 2012 This review is from: Lightspeed ZULU.2 (Straight Cord, Dual GA Plugs, Battery Power) (Electronics) I've had the Light speed Zulu 2 headset for about a month now and have been flying with it four times, once in a Mooney 201 and three times in a noisy little Grumman Yankee. I'm very happy with the Zulu 2. The headset is comfortable with minimal clamping pressure and it's extremely lightweight. The earcups are soft and completely enclose my high fidelity Irish ears. The active noise canceling is super quiet even when the canopy is open in the Yankee. I also like the Bluetooth features. It's very easy to pair up a bluetooth phone or another Bluetooth device.
I was able to trade in my 10 year old Light speed XL's for a $250 credit which made the deal irresistible. I am surprised to see another customer's comment about having had difficulty with Lighspeed customer service. My experience has been just the opposite. I had an issue early on with my old XL's and Light speed stepped up right away and fixed things for me. Later on I ordered some replacement earcups for the old headset... Read more
